A recruitment process that was in trouble. The HR department at this large professional services organization did not have the time to start with a clean slate.
Solution
HR West consultants got involved in each position only as a vacancy occurred to manage the client’s expenditure and to make sure the changes were only done when needed and managers would immediately see the change. As vacant positions came up, HR West redesigned the job descriptions, adding a significant focus on the competencies to be successful in the role, enhanced the internal and external postings, and created competency based interview guides that were specific to each position. For many positions we also created work sample scenarios that were integrated into the hiring process in addition to introducing validated assessments for specific areas like administration and leadership positions.
Competency based interview guides – Introduced at many of our clients, we adapt a leading provider’s publicly available materials to develop comprehensive interview guides that are specific to each position. Using competencies during the interview process, clients learn which candidates have the “goods” for work success in the role.
Work sample scenarios – Ever hired someone who claims to have key work related skills and once they start those skills are not as advertised? We design work sample scenarios for clients across a variety of skills – using Excel, writing memos, making presentations and more – and help our clients integrate the scenarios into their hiring processes.
Validated assessments – For many positions, there are validated assessments (typically multiple choice tests) that can be part of a hiring process. Whether you are hiring a new supervisor, a administrator or tradesperson we can help you select (and properly use) validated tools as part of your selection process. HR West maintains an inventory of key tests so that you can avoid minimum orders and can quickly utilize these tools.
